Organization

The Aruba Bar Association was founded in 1991 and is an association for attorneys at law working in Aruba. The Bar Association is an association without legislative powers. Membership of the Bar Association is not compulsory for attorneys at law. However, about 80% of the attorneys at law working in Aruba are members of the Association. On the other hand, registration with the Common Court of Justice of the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba is compulsory for all attorneys at law working in Aruba who also want to be members of the Association.

The Association aims to promote the administration of justice and legal certainty in Aruba. It tries to fulfill this purpose by:

  • providing support and information to those working or aspiring to work in the legal profession;
  • issuing publications;
  • promoting ethics and the study of jurisprudence;
  • furthering the interests of its members before all authorities designated for that purpose;
  • promoting good relationships among its members;
  • working with other organizations who pursue similar goals;

and, in general, by any legal means available to it, whose goal may also be to guarantee the proper functioning of the Association and of legal practice.
